AetherTab (“the Extension”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is designed with a Privacy-First, Zero-Telemetry architecture. We believe that your new tab page, bookmarks, focus habits, notes, and browsing portals are strictly your private data.
1. Zero Data Collection & Zero Tracking
- No Remote Servers: AetherTab does not operate remote servers to collect, harvest, monitor, or analyze your browsing activity.
- No Telemetry / Analytics: AetherTab contains no third-party analytics trackers, tracking pixels, or diagnostic telemetry scripts (such as Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or Amplitude).
- No Account Required: 100% of all current core features are available immediately upon installation without requiring personal identification, registration, email addresses, or account creation.
2. Browser Permissions & Data Usage
AetherTab requests only the minimal browser permissions necessary to deliver local functionality:
| Permission | Purpose & Scope | Network Transmission |
|---|---|---|
bookmarks | Read, organize, create, and update bookmarks in your browser’s local bookmark hierarchy to display them as customizable Speed Dial portals. | None. Operates entirely locally. |
topSites | Used optionally to populate top frequently visited sites upon first install if no custom portals are configured. | None. Operates entirely locally. |
favicon | Allows your browser to fetch and render high-resolution website icons for your saved bookmarks directly from your browser’s native favicon cache. | None. Managed natively by browser. |
storage | Saves your local UI preferences (theme choice, backlit glow colors, clock format, custom wallpaper URL, task tracker list, and scratchpad notes) in chrome.storage.local or localStorage. | None. Stored exclusively on your physical device. |
3. Storage & Data Retention
- Local Storage: All preferences, task items, scratchpad notes, custom wallpaper URLs, and theme configurations reside exclusively on your local device.
- Bookmarks: Managed natively via the browser’s bookmark storage and synchronized exclusively across your own devices through your browser’s built-in synchronization mechanisms (e.g., Chrome Sync / Firefox Sync).
- Export / Import: Any backup exports generated by AetherTab are saved as standard JSON files directly onto your local disk.
4. Single-Purpose Policy Compliance
AetherTab adheres strictly to the Chrome Web Store Single-Purpose Policy. The extension serves a single, unified purpose: to provide a high-performance, private, customizable new tab dashboard for bookmark management and daily productivity.
5. Future Freemium / Pro Features
Current core capabilities (including unlimited speed dials, category group folders, backlit card glow, clock/calendar, focus timer, task tracker, and local scratchpad) are and will remain free.
Should optional premium (“Pro”) cloud synchronization or team collaboration features be introduced in future updates, any optional payment processing will be handled via certified third-party merchant providers (such as Stripe), and no payment data will ever be stored by AetherTab.
6. Contact & Open Source Auditing
If you have questions regarding this Privacy Policy or wish to inspect the extension’s local data storage mechanisms, you may contact the development team through the official support repository.
